Elizabeth Overton placed third overall in the Miss Teen Montgomery Pageant. |
Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School junior Elizabeth Marie Overton, along with classmate Emily Jane Walker, participated in the Miss Teen Montgomery Pageant on Saturday, February 8, 2014.
According to the Miss Teen Montgomery website, this pageant is different because it is “about each contestant having the ability to gain self-confidence, self-esteem and the opportunity to make new friends who share the same interests as they do. The pageant is unlike any other since it is based on PERSONALITY.”
The process began on Monday, January 20 with a personal interview phase where 300 young ladies were interviewed personally by the judges. The competition was then narrowed down to 127 participants. Both MCPS juniors moved on to the next phase. The participants had a ‘casual wear’ competition, a ‘formal wear’ competition, and a question and answer phase on stage.
Elizabeth had to answer the following question: “What is your definition of a winner?” Her answer was “A winner to me is someone who never gives up, a winner is someone who tries and tries again, and although winning isn’t everything being a winner is”.
Emily Walker enjoyed her first experience at the Miss Teen Montgomery competition in February. |
Emily said of the experience, “The thing I apply most to my life is that winning isn’t everything. I realized that not everyone will be crowned, but if you have the right attitude you will always be a winner.”
Both Montgomery Catholic students enjoyed the experience,
and Elizabeth earned third overall, earning automatic entry into the Miss Teen USA Pageant in Orlando, Florida to be held in December.
Elizabeth is the daughter of Mary and James Overton of Montgomery. Emily is the daughter of Dana Walker and James Walker.
Montgomery Catholic congratulations both Emily & Elizabeth!
