Lee and Petters Earn Top Scores on AMC 8 at Montgomery Catholic 1

Seventh grader Brian Lee and eighth grader Leo Petters outscored over 80 honor students at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School on the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) 8 to attain the highest scores at the school.  The American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) is dedicated to the goal of strengthening the mathematical capabilities of our nation’s youth and promote excitement, enthusiasm, and positive attitudes towards mathematics.

The AMC 8 is a 25 item timed examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem solving skills.  It provides an opportunity to apply the concepts taught at the junior high level to problems which not only range from easy to difficult but also cover a wide range of applications.  The AMC year begins with the AMC 8 in the fall and the upper level tests, the AMC 10 and AMC 12, are given in the spring.  High school students at Montgomery Catholic will participate in those tests in February 2011.
