Montgomery Catholic students “canned” the competition on September 19 to win first place at the Can-Structure Social Design Competion hosted by Goodwyn, Mills, & Cawood held at the Shoppes at East Chase in Montgomery. Montgomery Catholic’s team also took home the “viewer’s choice” trophy.
Groups of high school students from Loveless Academic Magnet Program, Trinity Presbyterian School, George Washington Carver High School, Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School, Brewbaker Technology Magnet, Sidney Lanier High School, Montgomery Academy, and Jefferson Davis High School built structures from donated canned goods on Saturday, September 19th.
Each team began building their structures at 8:00 a.m. and had until 5:00 p.m. to complete the project. The awards ceremony for best design and viewer’s choice winners were announced at 5:30 p.m. The structures will be on display in the former Buzz shop at the Shoppes at East Chase through September 26. All canned goods will be donated to the Montgomery Area Food Bank.
Montgomery Catholic’s team created a giant soup can with over 800 individual cans, color coordinating the can down to the label. Montgomery Catholic’s can-structure design team members are Chance Williams, Barbara Bradley, Cathy Ranieri, Lexie Segrest, Hayden Ellis, and Courtney Hamilton. Mrs. Kathy O’Connor and Dr. Joe Profio are the faculty sponsors.
