Alabama Accountability Act SGOs

The Alabama Accountability Act of 2013 permitted the formation of non-profit Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs). These SGOs are funded by individual and corporate contributions and provide scholarships to financially eligible lower-income K5-12th grade students in the state of Alabama. SGO scholarships can provide much of the funding for students to attend independent schools.

Important Notes:

  • A student must meet MCPS admission requirements to utilize an SGO award.
  • Eligibility requirements and timelines vary for each SGO.
  • These scholarships are not managed by MCPS. All questions should be directed to the individual SGO for which you are applying.

Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School (“MCPS”) is an approved school partnering with the following three SGOs:

  • Alabama Opportunity Scholarship Fund
    • For 2026/27, click here to add your name to the interest form if you meet the AOSF qualifications on their website.
  • Scholarship for Kids
    • For every 3 new applicants coming from public school to MCPS, we can add 1 new internal (returning to MCPS) applicant. If you meet the SFK qualifications on their website, please email Lauren Huss to be on the list for consideration.
  • Renaissance
    • If you meet the Renaissance qualifications on their website, please email Lauren Huss so that she can recommend your student for the scholarship, which is the first step of the application.
