Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School’s high school Science Olympiad team had a successful trip to the Regional High School Science Olympiad Competition hosted by the University of South Alabama in Mobile on March 3, 2018. Montgomery Catholic was represented by nine students who competed in and placed in the top three in nine of the events. Based on the overall scores, Montgomery Catholic earned both a third place Team Trophy, as well as an invitation to enter a team for the State Science Olympiad Competition at Auburn University on March 31.
Montgomery Catholic’s High School Science Olympiad team members are: Seniors – James Avery, Odalyz Montez, Chris DeJesus, Henry Petters, Lita Blackburn and Paige Rentfro and Juniors – Jonah Gier, Annie Bach, Anna Catherine Barranco, and Austin Collett. Event first place recipients were:
Jonah Gier and Odalyz Montes in Microbe Mission, Jonah Gier and Austin Collett in Herpetology, Annie Bach Mission Possible, Henry Petters and Chris DeJesus in Game On. Event second place recipients were:
Paige Rentfro and Austin Collett in Remote Sensing, Lita Blackburn and Paige Rentfro in Place Rocks and Minerals, Annie Bach in Mousetrap Vehicle and event third place recipients were Lita Blackburn and Chris DeJesus in Astronomy and Anna Catherine Barranco and Lita Blackburn in Towers.
Mrs. Elizabeth Harbin acts as the team’s head coach and is looking forward to a successful State tournament.
