Jim Tolbert Named Athletic Director 1 Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School President Faustin Weber named Jim Tolbert as the school’s new athletic director effective Julio 1. Tolbert will oversee all high school and middle school athletic teams.

“We were blessed to have several excellent applicants for this position,” Weber explains, “but we felt that Jim’s executive skills, his public relations expertise and his life-long interest in Alabama high school athletics made him the best combination for us.”
Tolbert, a former president of the MCPS school council, has more than 20 years experience in public relations and communications. He spent the past three years as general manager of Gadsden Broadcasting Co. and is a staff writer for the Birmingham News sports department.

“I am very excited to have this opportunity,” said Tolbert. “Catholic has played such an important role in the lives of my entire family. My wife and I have been active supporters of the Montgomery Catholic school system for many years. Our oldest son is a Catholic High graduate and now serves as the boys basketball coach and our youngest son is about to enter his senior year here.

“I’m looking forward to taking my passion for and knowledge of athletics and using it to continue building athletic teams that are competitive at the highest level. Our top priority will always be to produce outstanding young Christian men and women.”

Tolbert succeeds Tony Taylor, who resigned recently to return to coaching and teaching.

Tolbert holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Auburn University. Prior to joining Gadsden Broadcasting, he served as executive director of the Diabetes Trust Fund in Birmingham. He has also served as communications manager for the American Red Cross Blood Services and was public affairs director for the Alabama Public Service Commission.
